Books To Read Before I Die

Okay I have seen several of these lists, made up by different people, in the last few months. There are always some books that I say WHY?? and others that I wonder WHERE ARE THEY?

So I am asking you,

What books would you put on the list? and WHY?

The obvious first one would be the Bible, but what is next.

A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. I've probably read it about 20 times--no kidding. I seriously read it a couple of times a year, and get something new out of it every time.

Also, The Chosen by Chaim Potok. I just love that book.

Can you tell I'm big on the old 'coming of age' books? I need to read Catcher in the Rye; I've just never gotten around to it. I started it once when I was too young to appreciate it, and never got back to it. One day, I will.

If you get The Chosen, be sure to read The Promise sometime soon after that. It's the sequel. Not a necessary sequel, but it gives you more insight on what happens to Danny later in life.

Honesly, I recommend ALL of Chaim Potok's books. My Name is Asher Lev is excellent. So is Davita's Harp. It correlates (very) slightly with The Chosen. I Am the Clay is very good, also.

I could keep on recommending books...the Harry Potter series, Memoirs of a Geisha, Friday Night Lights, The Yearling, etc., etc., etc. Yep, I'm a voracious reader. Could you tell?
